The busiest Father's Day dining spot in Queensland isn't taking reservations: it's a plastic barricade in the middle of a Coolangatta backstreet.
Three generations of the Lowien family live only half an hour apart but were forced to meet at the barricade to celebrate Father's Day.Border fairies Fairy Erinn and Fairy Rose said they wanted to "spread magic" throughout the "heartbreaking" situation.
Fairy Erinn said their balloons were a Father's Day tradition, but this year they were giving them out for free "to bring a bit of joy to separated families"."There are a lot of people really caring about people who are in this situation," she said.The Lowien family said meeting at the border barrier was the best they could do to see dad and granddad Jim on the other side.Nick Lowien, his brother, and their children met dad and grandpa Jim Lowien at the border.
The Qld-NSW border was a hive of activity as people caught up with loved dads, granddads and families.
