.GOPoversight’s investigation into an alleged bribery scheme involving Hunter Biden and a Ukrainian energy executive will continue even after he’s agreed to plead guilty to three federal charges. RepJamesComer called the plea deal a 'slap on the wrist.'
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said in a statement that Hunter Biden’s plea deal was a “slap on the wrist” and that the committee will continue investigating the Biden family. On Tuesday, the Department of Justice revealed that Hunter Biden would plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and one felony charge of possessing a firearm while being a user of illegal drugs. This comes after a nearly five-year federal investigation into the president’s son.
The plea deal comes amid an Oversight Committee investigation into whether or not Hunter Biden and President Joe Biden each took $5 million bribes from an executive at the Ukrainian energy giant Burisma, in which Hunter Biden sat on the board. These allegations come from a paid FBI informant through an FBI-generated FD-1023 tip sheet. The allegations are not confirmed.
Comer had stated that the FD-1023 document was being used in an active and ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden. It is currently unclear if the investigation in Hunter Biden’s plea deal had anything to do with the investigation Comer mentioned.
