In an interview with Sky News Australia’s Maddie Hale, the attorney for IRS agent Gary Shapley has claimed the five-year investigation “always benefitted” the president’s son.
Gary Shapley, a 15-year veteran of the US federal tax agency, has accused Department of Justice prosecutors of putting the probe into the 53-year-old’s finances “on the back burner” as the 2020 election approached.
“[This was] his opportunity to share what he wanted to come forward with, which was that in the investigation of Hunter Biden, [he] was treated differently than any other case he'd seen in his 15 years at the IRS,” Mr Leavitt said.“There were investigative and prosecutor decisions made that have not been, you know, made in any other case that he's seen. It was always to the benefit of Hunter.
“But it raises the question: what could these new prosecutors possibly know about all the years’ worth of evidence and all the information there that you would need to in good faith engage in a plea deal negotiations that accurately reflect the government’s evidence against Hunter Biden.” If that’s true, the statement would contradict Attorney General Merrick Garland’s sworn testimony where he claimed he would not interfere in the investigation and David Weiss has “full authority” to make charges.“Did David Weiss, as he told investigators from multiple agencies on October 7, 2022 previously ask for special counsel or special attorney authority? And if so, was it denied? And who did he ask it of? Those are all questions Weiss needs to answer.
