The results were life-changing for Luke Davies
Luke Davies was at work when an email popped up on his phone. The results from his DNA test were back.
Growing up in a white, working-class family in Rochdale, the 31-year-old always felt like an outsider. Now, he finally knew why. “Within my own family, I've always been loved and supported,” Luke, who lives in Hulme, added. “Like I belonged with them.In his late 20s, Luke tried to distract himself by traveling the world. It was a desperate attempt to find somewhere that felt more like home.
“While it was mentioned to me, it never sunk in because you never look for ways to think your parents aren’t your parents.” She met his real dad on a girls’ holiday to Portugal in the 90s. All she could remember was that the man was a bartender called Carlos. That’s when Luke sat down with Gary to give him the news. “I was contextualising every minute detail because I didn’t want to directly say he wasn’t my biological dad,” he added.“He was crying and it was hard to deal with. It was all so raw, and that’s when I started to feel in my mind that I was a bit frustrated. I felt angry and I didn’t know who to be angry at.”
