Nine-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic has launched a stunning attack on Eurosport claiming he 'will not tolerate injustice' after the broadcaster reported he had ignored an umpire.
The Serbian was captured in an exchange with the chair umpire asking for a toilet break where he appeared to ignore the umpire’s directions and left the court for the bathroom after reportedly being told he was not allowed.“Novak Djokovic defied the umpire to take an early bathroom break in his first match at the Australian Open ,” the video’s caption read.
Commentators for Channel Nine at the time suggested the nine-time Australian Open champion was “pulling rank” over the umpire. Djokovic came out on social media shortly after the incident to explain that he had been given permission to leave the court and did so under the rules. “I can’t remember the details of exactly what happened six months ago, but at the time I said I will not be giving any interviews to Eurosport,” he said, according to Tennismajors.com.
“In our organisation – ATP or WTA – there has to be a system of timely protection of players, someone who will react, do something about these things,” he said.
