Star Wars' new uber-threat the Scourge - an evil that even the ancient Sith feared - has finally introduced itself to fans, revealing a monstrous perspective that will threaten the entire galaxy. A viral consciousness bent on converting all artificial life to its cause, the Scourge is a new composite being, created when the AI known as the Spark Eternal merged with a mysterious piece of ancient tech.

The newly formed Scourge is the merging of two technologies. First, the Spark Eternal - this AI was created by the Ascendant cult; a group of non-Force sensitives who existed during the height of Sith power. The Ascendant were dedicated to using tech to replace the Force and give themselves comparable power, and intended for the Spark Eternal to be the chief interface for their various inventions as the core of the entire system.
