A delegation from New Zealand is in Germany tasked with repatriating more than 100 Māori and Moriori remains looted or traded during colonial times.

But a broad push by institutions is underway to make amends for these historical wrongs, and Ms Solomon's promise will soon be fulfilled."That whole concept is so crazy to me," she said. Te Herekiekie Herewini, who is the head of repatriation at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and is leading the delegation, said handover ceremonies were being held in each city.
"It is incredible to think that 150 years ago these travelled by ships from the shores of Aotearoa to be traded here in Europe," New Zealand's ambassador to Germany, Craig John Hawke, said during the public ceremony.The museum's director, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch, said he "would like to speak about persons instead of human remains".
After Leipzig, Mr Herewini's delegation continued on to the northern university town of Göttingen, where an official handover took place last week. "In the [university's] Blumenbach collection there is a total of about 800 human remains, of which about 200 are of non-European provenance," Dr Bendix said.
