“Today I learned how ChatGPT can save me hours on meal prep and planning,” one fitness influencer says. I was hooked. I find planning my food every week boring and as a result I eat essentially the same thing most days. It was time to let ChatGPT take the reins and force me to eat like a healthy, functioning adult.
Then came lunch and perhaps some of the strangest instructions for making a soup I have come across. On the menu was lentils. Again, fairly normal, except the soup would be made with specific components: one cup of lentils, one diced onion, two diced carrots, two diced celery sticks, four cups of water.
I was feeling a bit sad at this point, but my day was busy, and I momentarily forgot what was to come: an even worse dinner. It was raining again and I was leaving the office for the sticky crush of the Central line. That’s when the sadness of my situation truly hit. For dinner, the AI wanted me to eat a cup of brown rice. Sure, I could add fried broccoli and carrots but there would be no salt, no soy sauce, no glimmer of joy. This was too much of a sad thought to entertain for much longer. I picked up some crisps on my way home.My last day unceremoniously arrived.
Dinner shouldn’t have been weird, but it was. Perhaps the fault for this particular sad meal lies with me. The ambiguity of “tomato sauce” caused me to panic in my local Tesco. Do I get a jar of Dolmio? What would the AI want me to do? I could feel its omnipresent stare following me as I walked the aisle. I opted for passata, which felt like a tomato sauce middle ground. It ended up being a watery sauce with no salt, but I didn’t care. My three day ordeal was over.
