A disgruntled former Tasmanian Liberal MP who quit the party over the stadium project says she will only support next week's budget if stadium funding is clearly identified.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff has defended his handling of the AFL stadium project, which prompted the defection of two Liberal MPs to the crossbench, saying he has been "honest and open" about the project.Disgruntled backbencher Lara Alexander says there is a chance she and fellow defector John Tucker will block next week's budget if the stadium funding is not fully "explained and identified".

Lara Alexander and John Tucker threw the party into disarray when they announced they were quitting the Liberal Party over the stadium project. "There could be legitimate expenditure in relation to the site, which is rehabilitating the site, or there could be a number of things that form part of that intention of putting the stadium there.

The stadium at Macquarie Point is estimated to cost around $715 million, with the state government chipping in $375 million."I've been very open about the deal and will be more open and transparent about the deal," he said.
