The backroom dealings that ultimately resulted in Holmes leaving the Sharks for a crack at the NFL were a closely guarded secret. The Queensland and Australian star was advised not to disclose his ambition to anyone lest the move fall over at the last minute. It wasn’t an easy decision. It’s something I wanted to do and I stand by that. The boys obviously respected that, but I probably could have handled it better."It wasn't anything set in stone. There were legal things, I couldn't say anything. That was the other reason it couldn't come out, in case I wasn't actually going to do it."
The coronavirus outbreak will prevent fans from attending Saturday's match but Holmes hopes the situation will change for the return meeting, when Cronulla are hosting in round 16."Usually you get a reception of how the fans are feeling. Obviously [the Cronulla players] will give it to me the first couple of runs I have. We're all mates and it's a game of footy, we're all here to win.
