F1: Australian RB driver Daniel Ricciardo could lose his seat at the Red Bull feeder team, if reports are to be believed.
Daniel Ricciardo says he still has time to save his Formula 1 career after Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko said reserve driver Liam Lawson would be promoted into his seat “soon”.
Speaking ahead of his 250th start at the Austrian Grand Prix, Ricciardo was adamant he could still convince RB to keep him next year, though he admitted the clock was ticking, with the August break likely when a decision will be made about his future. “Two is not enough of course, at least for where I want to be. Now we have two more ahead. I definitely have a chance to get into the summer break with some momentum.”
The situation engulfing Ricciardo’s career is complicated by the political fissures at the heart of the Red Bull program, with chief backer Horner leading an opposing faction to the Max Verstappen-backed Marko. If Ricciardo were to be ousted from RB, his odds of landing another seat is low. Mercedes is all-in on young gun Andrea Kimi Antonelli, while the remaining seats in the bottom half of the grid all have names pencilled into them depending on where Carlos Sainz chooses to race next year.
He’s comfortably the most tenured Australian in F1 history, having surpassed Mark Webber’s 215 starts.
