But Power list boss Jason Cripps on Thursday suggested Essendon, which holds Pick 1, would likely call Cochrane’s name with the first selection next month.on Thursday. But from a planning perspective, we’re planning the bid for Dougie will be at 1 – whoever has got that pick. ”Cripps’ comments came as Cochrane’s media commitments at the national draft combine began. So when the young gun utility was inevitably asked about the Port list boss’ interview minutes later, Cochrane was somewhat caught off-guard.

“I actually had a couple media interviews and they sort of mentioned that on me,” Cochrane told foxfooty.com.au on Friday morning. “I didn’t realise what they were talking about because I didn’t see it. But then by the second or third interview, I was like: ‘Yeah probably was said! ’ “I’m not too fussed about it.

I’ve been dealing with it for more than two years now, so I don’t mind the pressure. I like it.

“Whatever pick I go – Pick 1, Pick 10, Pick 50 – I don’t care. I’m just going to contribute to whatever team I go to. Cochrane said no one from the Power or Bombers had officially reached out to him to confirm any draft plans.

“I’ve had a couple of meetings with them , but I’m not sure how that’s going to work. They haven’t formally told me,” he said. Cochrane missed most of his draft year – including the Under 18 carnival – after undergoing knee surgery in March to address tendinitis. MEGA TRADE GRAND FINAL UPDATE | 08:50 “Getting the best of the best looking after me, it feels a bit surreal.

It’s a bit crazy how they’re looking after me and how well they operate,” he said of Port.

“I’m very lucky that I’m their hands. I’m sure they’ll do everything right to make sure I’ll be back playing good footy – and that’s what I did. ”. Playing primarily as a defender, Cochrane averaged 17.8 disposals, 4.0 rebound 50s and went at 92 per cent disposal efficiency.

He said it was great to “get a little bit of a taste of it in the new colours” after previously representing Central District.

“It wasn’t the best four games because we lost by a fair bit each game, but it was still a good experience to run out with those boys and some good mates out there. “It was a bit unique, but I’m very privileged and grateful to put on that jumper I’ve grown up supporting. ” Potential No. 1 draft pick Dougie Cochrane playing his first SANFL game for Port Adelaide.

Picture: Dean MartinCochrane, the son of former Port Adelaide and North Melbourne utility Stuart Cochrane, has great athleticism, a high footy IQ, strong marking ability, running capacity and neat kicking skills. He also has the size and versatility to play across all thirds of the field.

“Looking up to all my idols from Port, they’re like superheroes to me. “It didn’t get too serious and I didn’t think about it until probably after the Under 16 Champs maybe. I had a pretty good carnival and I was thinking: ‘Gee, this is actually a real possibility here. I can make it to the top level. ’ I’ve just worked hard ever since.
