Federer staves off injury, seven match points to reach Australian Open semi-finals

The match apparently had not had enough bizarre twists so, during the change of ends at 3-3, a ball kid accidentally ran into Sandgren, driving a knee into his right ankle.

Having won none of his six match points to that point, Sandgren made it 0/7 as he ended a 19-shot rally with a sliced backhand into the net. Sandgren left the court ahead of the decider and Federer called for some on-court treatment on his groin.uddenly with the mental edge, if not the physical one, Federer managed to get his first break of serve since the first set to go up 4-4 and made it 5-2 with a quick hold.
