McDonald's is tip-toeing into the plant-based burger with a test in Canada.
McDonald's is tip-toeing into the plant-based burger market with the P.L.T. For months, McDonald’s has been on the sidelines as fast food rivals such as Burger King, Del Taco and White Castle introduced items made with plant-based meat.introducing the P.L.T., which stand for plant-based meat, lettuce and tomato, in Canada.
Some analysts think the fast food company is trying to create a plant-based burger that can go global, like its flagship Big Mac. I selected the P.L.T. on the touch screen, and customized it to remove slivered onions. You can’t tinker with the P.L.T. beyond the items that are offered on it, although you can add bacon and get it without a bun. Apparently, that’s because McDonald’s wants to know how this version of the sandwich performs, and it doesn’t want people doctoring it up too much.
But looks can be deceiving. My box contained a patty about the size of the classic McDonald’s cheeseburger, which happens to be my favorite McDonald’s item. . back in 2016, it’s more along that size.
