Imogen Horton has made a career out of sharing everything with her followers

The nurse was telling me, “Push!” and I clenched Spencer’s hand as I dutifully did. I was so deep into the contractions that I really didn’t think about the fact we were filming the birth for my 425,000 YouTube subscribers.

I was renting a tiny room before my YouTube began in 2017 and I’d film when my landlady and her family were out at work and school. I’d come home from night shifts and film at six in the morning too. But after six months I’d hit 100,000 subscribers. It was such a thrill. I actually moved back to Brighton once I hit that magical 100,000 mark. I wanted to save money by living at home while trying to turn my venture into a proper career. I’ve now been doing YouTube for nearly five years.

We always discuss it before we post anything, so there’s no fallouts about what’s shared. We agreed that when it came to the birth they’d be no filming down low! I do have limits. And we’d never show Renaelia without a top on or expose her body in that way. If she says when she’s older, “Mum, I really don’t want that birth video online,” then I’ll take it down.

Throughout my pregnancy I’d watched positive birth blogs and so I wanted to be that person for someone else, as well as having footage of my baby entering the world. With the gas and air I didn’t notice the camera but now I can’t watch the video without crying. It’s amazing seeing myself holding her for the first time.
