I Got a Monster goes beyond a simple case of corruption, instead diving deep into the racial tensions and anti-Black violence that were often at the heart of the crimes. Abrams' documentary details the secret FBI wiretap operation that helped put a stop to Jenkins and his crew's crime spree and also helps viewers question the pockets of moral bankruptcy hidden within the country's code of law and honor.
As seen in the trailer for I Got a Monster, court footage from the state of Maryland is utilized to paint a complete picture of Wayne Jenkins' racist methods and brazen actions. The man who was once thought of as a "super cop" who got the job done is systematically revealed to have been a worse crook than many of the criminals he locked up thanks to live footage and witness testimony.
