An irate Wests Tigers fan has revealed why Ivan Cleary blew him kisses while the club blasted its former coach for his “offensive” behaviour.
Cleary coached the Tigers in 2017 and 2018, famously urging everyone to get “on the bus” with him as the team looked to rebuild after some lean years.
Cleary refused to apologise for not seeing out his contract, which only added to the bad blood between himself and Tigers fans., Cleary’s reaction in the coaches box after beating his former club was sparked by a tirade from Tigers supporter Nicholas Zorbas, who was at the game with his son. “Was fed up. That ref was pathetic, the rub of the green went against us and I just really hate him and how he shafted us last season. Don’t get me started on his son.”“It was unacceptable and unprofessional,” Hagipantelis told the. “Those of us involved in the administration of the game should not be engaging in such a manner.
“It’s not something that you usually see a coach doing with rival fans. I don’t think it is something to be accepted. There were promises made and unfulfilled. There would be a lot of underlying angst with the true believers at the time. “I didn’t like what he said to me, as I said I’m not used to fans probably, I was probably a bit emotional. But I’m glad I didn’t do what I felt like doing.”
