Mamma Mia! 3 receives a confident update from its creator and producer. Based on the 1999 stage musical which features songs by ABBA and was the brainchild of Judy Craymer, the first Mamma Mia! movie released to big box office returns in 2008. Both a sequel and a prequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was another box office success 10 years later with much of the main cast returning. Since then, there have been hopes for a third movie, but no official progress in recent years.

I Have a Dream talent show on ITV, Craymer provided a confident Mamma Mia! 3 update, saying “it’s in its earliest stages.” However, Craymer cautioned that nothing is "official” yet, only that she knows "there’s a trilogy there." "It’s in its earliest stages... I don’t want to over-egg it, but I know there’s a trilogy there. There is a story there, and I do think Meryl should come back —— and if the script is right, she would, I think, because she really loved playing Donna." Everything That Has Been Said About Mamma Mia! 3 Craymer's comments are just the latest in a long line of remarks made about a possible threequel, starting with her own in 2020 when she revealed that Mamma Mia! was always "meant to be a trilogy." Even though the producer says the third movie is in the earliest stage of development, it's unclear when that might materialize in an official announcement from Universal.
