As we grow up we can lose our childhood glee. Professor Bruce Hood, who has created a Science of Happiness course, shows Kasia Delgado some simple ways we can get it back

From finding joy in bashing a saucepan, to laughing hysterically at their own nonsensical jokes, or stamping in a puddle, most of themin daily life.

“So most adults are capable of remembering that they’re not the centre of the universe when they need to, because they have learnt that – but actually, day to day it can be difficult to do that spontaneously.“We are often still trapped in our own self-centred universe, but unlike in childhood, we are now very much aware of present and potential future problems, and we can view our problems as bigger than they actually are.

Feeling loved and having positive, supportive relationships, particularly with friends and family, including having someone to talk to and rely on, was consistently stated as a top priority for children to have a happy life. So, keen to keep my egocentric self at bay, and remind myself there’s a vast world out there, I tried out some of his many evidence-based tasks at home. Here are a few other exercises, which I enjoy trying out. I have felt they have had an impact.
