The Australian has said any decision about his future will “come from Cameron Smith and not Cameron Percy” as Greg Norman closes in on his biggest scalp.
World No.2 Cameron Smith has declined to comment on reports he is about to join Greg Norman’s breakaway Saudi-funded rebel golf league, insisting he is a “man of his word” who wants to play the Presidents Cup.
Just a day after fellow Australian golfer Cameron Percy said British Open champion Smith and fellow Australian Marc Leishman were “gone” to LIV Golf, Smith has fronted questions about speculation he has already agreed to leave the PGA Tour later this year. Speaking before the start of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs, in which Smith could climb to world No.1, the Australian was candid in claiming he would wait until another time to talk about his future.
“My goal here is to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs,” Smith said. “That’s all I’m here for. If there’s something I need to say regarding the PGA Tour or LIV, it will come from Cameron Smith [and] not Cameron Percy. I’m a man of my word and whenever you guys need to know anything it will be said by me.”
