“I’m a republican, personally.' New governor Margaret Gardner has told reporters she is a republican, but will give the role her best efforts and respect.
Premier Daniel Andrews announced the appointment on Monday alongside Gardner, who has held her position at Monash since 2014.
She recently chaired the Group of Eight Universities, where she remains a director, and was vice-chancellor of RMIT for nine years.Gardner, made a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2020, has served on the board of Infrastructure Victoria, Museums Victoria and the New Zealand School of Government .
