As a married woman, this is the closest I’ve come to dating apps
I met my now-husband back in 2002, so our relationship pre-dates the era of dating apps. I never got to try my finger at Tinder, stumble my way through Bumble, or hook up on Hinge.
Instantly the messages flooded in. “Is this still available?” they all wanted to know. The marketplace equivalent of a swipe right. “Sure is,” was my swipe back. And then, nothing. Left on read. Ghosted. What did these buyers want? Just to be titillated to know it was available? Finally one guy got in touch, saying he wanted to meet in real life. A date was arranged and he turned up right on cue. He spent time alone with the wardrobe, getting to know it both inside and out. All the signs were promising. Then he left and said he’d be in touch.Three days passed and there was no word from him. I was bemused. Had it not gone as well as I’d thought? With a bit of courage, I dropped him a note.
The interest was immediate and intense. Soon a woman who was looking for something serious arrived to check it out. The attraction was palpable, perhaps even love at first sight. I’ve since seen photos of their new life together. They were made for each other.
