What have I been doing with my life for 30 years? Neighbours, I’m so sorry. I’ve made a terrible mistake. I’ve neglected you. It was my ego. | OPINION by Kate Lahey
The other night I did something I haven’t done for 25 years. I turned on. The final episode of the soap airs tonight and although I’m deeply invested in Ramsay Street in a nostalgic way – I skipped very few of the 2290 episodes that aired between 1986-1994 – I have no clue what’s actually going on in Erinsborough in 2022.when the final credits roll, so I tuned back in, starting with the episode that aired last Thursday. Good lord. It was good.
And when it was absolutely beyond time to go to bed, I wondered: what have I been doing with my life for 30 years?NeighboursShane Ramsay has returned, having made his fortune in crypto and doing what anyone would do in his situation – trying to buy Lassiters. Paul owns it. He’s mellowed a bit but he’s still Paul .
It’s mesmerising – not just their cheekbones and hair but the warm, weird, awkwardness of their conversation. Harold’s also Zooming these days. He had to call his former son-in-law, Joe Mangel, to help him right a wrong he’d committed involving Toadie and his new fiance, Mel, . But there’s a bit of a triangle situation here that’s not boding too well for a wedding in the final episode ... or is it?Meanwhile, Izzy, infamous for her role in blowing up Karl and Susan’s marriage by rooting Karl, is now rooting Karl and Susan’s son, Malcolm. This is getting pretty close to a shark jump, but I’m here for it.
Glenn spots three photos of his half-sister Lucy: “they look so different,” he says of the character played by three different actresses over the years. “It’s almost like they’re three different people.”People start arriving that I don’t recognise on account of my 30-year soap-opera coma. Paige, anyone? It doesn’t matter, she’s Ramsay Street stock, so I love her on sight. This makes me realise that when Scott and Charlene and everyone else turn up tonight, I’ll probably cry.
