That time LancsLive entered one of our reporters in the World Gravy Wrestling Championship and ended up getting disqualified in disgrace...
This time last year I had been living a normal life. Going to work, walking around Preston city centre and cooking my favourite Italian pasta dish like there was no tomorrow.
It turned out that all I had to do was fill out a quick registration form online, and very quickly I rang the Rose N Bowl to make my interest known and to see if there were any women's spaces left with such short notice. There was one space left and my fate was quickly sealed. Then Monday rolls round and my nerves were so high I'm surprised the Burj Khalifa didn't accuse me of being a copycat. We made the 40 minute drive from Preston to Stacksteads and parked up. Stepping out of the car was like faceplanting into a roast dinner immediately, the stench of gravy was pungent, and they hadn't even filled it up the inflatable wrestling ring yet.
The battles begin after the World Gravy Boxing match which debuted for the first time last year. As pairs go in to wrestle it out, the floor gets swamped in more and more gravy and the anticipation for your own name to be called has you in a chokehold.
