Episode two of BBC drama The Reckoning aired on Tuesday evening with Jimmy Savile's horrid acts further put under the microscope
Steve Coogan put in another toe-curling performance as monster Jimmy Savile in episode two of The Reckoning.
Viewers saw cold and calculating Savile spreading like a virus as he infiltrated the BBC, Broadmoor Prison and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. There were many difficult scenes in the second edition of The Reckoning, which aired on Tuesday evening, but probably the manner in which Savile is seen taking advantage of a patient, at the hospital, is the most horrific.The narrative portrayed something akin to the cult of Savile forming as he became untouchable hellbent on destroying those in his way.
The drama features brief talking head testimony from those actual people who suffered at the real hands of Savile. As one succinctly put: “ The biggest manipulator of people to rise to the status that he did.” In the drama, airing on the BBC but created by ITV Studios, at times viewers see Coogan’s Savile buying into this unforgivable mindset, at others, openly mocking those who idolised him. Gloats, such as: "Age is just a number when you are having fun. I made the mistake of showing how much fun I was having."
