Legal experts say defendants cannot appeal before a verdict is reached. The judge says trial dates are dictated by personal or professional obligations.

Donald Trump will have to face trial in Washington on March 4 next year a day, after a judge rejected his defence team’s request to push back the federal case by years.with four counts of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election won by Democrat Joe Biden.

This artist sketch depicts former US president Donald Trump, right, conferring with defence lawyer Todd Blanche, centre, during his appearance at the Federal Courthouse in Washington DC on August 3.Trump immediately said he would appeal, though legal experts said such a move was not possible before a verdict was reached in the case.“I will APPEAL,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. He did not say how or when the appeal would be made.

Meanwhile in Atlanta on Monday , where Trump and 18 others were charged with trying to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows was arguing to try to get the charges against him transferred from state court to federal court. Prosecutor Molly Gaston countered that the public had an “exceedingly” strong interest in moving the case forward to trial and said that the crux of the evidence has long been well known to the defence. Trump, she noted, is accused of “attempting to overturn an election and disenfranchise millions.”
