Love Island may be the most talked about TV show of recent years, but a new BBC3 dating show, I Kissed A Boy, is vying for its crown for a very good reason
I Kissed a Boy, which is set in Italy and hosted by Dannii Minogue, has a similar premise to Love Island, but the twist is that the men who are coupled up have to kiss before they’ve even said hello to each other.
Jack, 33, says, “When I came out to my parents, their knowledge of homosexuality was basically Boy George, George Michael, Freddie Mercury and Elton John. That was it. They didn’t know anything else about it, so the fact a TV show like this is in people’s homes is huge. It’s a dating show about love, not about sex, or drugs or tragedy.
There have been many comparisons between I Kissed A Boy and Love Island, but according to Jack, the former shows a more realistic slice of life. He says, “I feel like Love Island only shows one facet of straightness, whereas I Kissed a Boy is showing you a hundred different ways to be gay. Which is great because there are a hundred different ways to be gay and it’s nice to see that reflected. It helps normalise it.
