Extreme runner and Australian cult hero Nedd Brockmann has revealed how close he came to death in his gallant 1,000-mile run last month.

Nedd Brockmann certain he 'would have died' during world record running attempt if not for his crew telling him to sleep

A month on from his heroic endeavour, Brockmann has opened about how challenging the run was for him, and the depths in which it took him mentally, physically and emotionally. "I think that night I was pretty close to it, and had I not had the crew around me to make the decision to tell me to sleep, I have no doubt I would have died trying to get it.

"I think it should be beyond your grasp because then in the feat of daring greatly, coming up short is still just as valuable for yourself and the people around because inevitably in life, we all come up short," he said. From October 20 to October 29, Australians were encouraged to commit to their own challenge for 10 days, while raising funds for the homelessness foundation.

In what may come as a surprise to many, Brockmann is already back running despite picking up injuries from his record attempt.
