Ian Chesterman, Australia’s chef de mission at the Tokyo Games, has been elected president of the Australian Olympic Committee , defeating former Olympic swimmer Mark Stockwell for the right to take over from John Coates.
He had a direct hand in bringing the Olympics to Sydney in 2000 and Brisbane in 2032. And while he won’t continue as an AOC executive, he retains his membership, sits on the Brisbane 2032 board and maintains his position at the IOC until 2024.
