Global technology giant IBM has taken the axe to a significant part of its Australian IT consulting arm, making dozens of senior leaders from its advisory business redundant as it struggles with a downturn in demand.
, or more than 4 per cent of its 45,000-strong workforce. In contrast, PwC, EY and Deloitte have all said they do not intend to cut staff.
IBM Consulting is contracted by organisations to help devise and run technology transformation strategies, often helping them deploy software and services from companies like Amazon Web Services, SAP and Salesforce.The job cuts mark a notable change in sentiment for its cloud and technology services division. At the end of 2021, IBMOne of the key metrics used to track the health of tech services firms is the number of staff it has “on the bench” or currently not fully deployed on client work.
The majority of those sacked were at the “Band 9” and the “Band 10″ level, which are the most senior levels before partner and are comparable to the associate partner and director ranks in big four services firms. While the company did not confirm the scale of cuts, they have hit a significant portion of its senior leaders. Current and former staff provided estimates toIn a sign of unrest within the ranks, well-placed sources said that other senior operatives at the company had left recently, after having their performance questioned by management.
Not helping matters is that rival technology consulting firm Accenture last month won two hotly contested contracts, worth about $14.4 million, to provide cloud computer services to the Department of Defence.Connect with
