Tech giant IBM says a shortage of skilled workers is exposing businesses to rising cyber threats.
| Businesses in Australia and worldwide face surging costs to defend against cyberattacks because of a global shortage of skilled workers, IBM’s head of cybersecurity has warned.
A global shortage of cybersecurity incident responders, whose already shallow labour pools are leaving the industry due to high stress, would increase costs for business trying to shield from cyberattacks, Mr Henderson said. Over the past year, IBM has shed 22,000 workers, including 3900 last week as part of a global downturn in the sector. But Mr Henderson said the cybersecurity division had been protected from the layoffs.
“We need to develop new talent in the industry. We also need to develop efficiencies the same way the attackers develop efficiencies so that we can reduce costs.”
