NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian is due to appear before ICAC as part of the inquiry into corruption allegations against former MP Daryl Maguire. Follow our coverage here:
Heads certainly turned on Macquarie Street last week when ICAC released its witness list for today, naming Premier Gladys Berejiklian as the first to take the stand.
The Premier said she was "pleased to be assisting" and could not comment on any of the matters before the commission. The government was concerned Mr Maguire would cause a diplomatic incident that would embarrass the minister and the state of NSW if he went. While in office he variously served as a parliamentary secretary and the chairman of the NSW Asia Pacific Friendship Group.after another corruption inquiry exposed his attempts to broker property deals and seek commission on behalf of a Chinese developer.
