Icare forced to repay almost $40 million to workers or their estates | LucyCormack

In an audit published last week, NSW Auditor-General Margaret Crawford said icare’s Workers Compensation Authority first sought legal advice on underpayments in 2014, but nothing was done to address the issue for six years. Among the 1040 cases relating to deceased workers, $8 million has been repaid to the estates of about 800 people and icare is trying to contact remaining executors.
An icare spokesman said the insurer hoped to repay all workers and their families by the end of June. The auditor-general said icare needed to improve its operational practices, act on a timely basis on legal advice and amend operational practices to ensure correct payments are made.
