Bill Granger's eponymous and iconic Darlinghurst cafe will shut from Monday amid the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, with no date yet set for its reopening | MWhitbourn

Granger's avocado toast was chosen by Christine Muhlke, editor-at-large formagazine, who said the dish had "led to an international trend that's still going today, thanks to young Australians who left on work visas and ended up working in cafes in New York, LA, London and beyond".

Granger, who was just 22 when he opened bills Darlinghurst, now has a string of cook books and a television series under his belt, along with restaurants in Sydney, Seoul, Tokyo, Honolulu and London., and NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet indicated at a state government summit on Friday that it was hoping to achieve that.

A section of Barrack Street, off George Street, would be closed, while hospitality businesses would be able to sprawl into Tankstream Way and Wilmot Lane to enable them to accommodate more customers than presently allowed under COVID-19 restrictions. Our weekly newsletter will deliver expert analysis of the race to the White House from our US correspondent Matthew Knott.
