The increasing use of ID scanning at bars and nightclubs in Australia is raising concerns among privacy advocates and cybersecurity experts about the risk of personal data breaches. While some venues argue that the systems improve safety and prevent fake IDs, the Australian Privacy Commissioner has expressed worries about the collection and storage of sensitive information.

Mr Murray said Australia focused too much on technology as a solution to issues, and a greater emphasis should be placed on businesses collecting less data to begin with.
