"People are changing and not pursuing certain lines of research that they would pursue otherwise, so it is having impacts across campus for faculty and students," Orr said.
One of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, a philosophy professor who taught a bioethics course, has completely stripped a module that covered human reproduction and is worried abortion could still come up in other topics like genetics, Kim said. "She basically stripped that lecture out and told the students, they would have to pick a different topic to discuss," Kim said.
Kim said that abortion, because it is controversial, is very useful for teaching core critical thinking and analytical skills.
