Let’s talk about corruption. What should we do about the influence of money in our campaigns and our government? (This is a reader submission from Denise Schuchardt, an educator in Pleasanton, Calif., drawn up by our own wuerker)
Get rid of money in politics. The government should have some fund, and anyone running for office gets exactly the same amount to campaign on.
That would level the playing field for new people trying to get into politics, and it would force the vets to get out there and mingle with actual people to get their votes. No easy reelections. No spending millions on campaign ads—get out there and actually campaign. This will make it easier for elected officials to spend time working on passing laws instead of constantly being out there fundraising for campaign money. Start there.
