Australia has good stocks of antiviral drugs to protect people against severe COVID-19, but getting a subsidised script for them is not always easy.
As Australia braces for a new wave of COVID-19, there is a rush to optimise the use of antiviral drugs which some people presently get for $42.50 a course while others have to pay more than $1000 because they are not entitled to a subsidy.
Pharmacy Guild Victoria president Anthony Tassone said while people on a concession card can get a course of antivirals for $6.80 and a PBS subsidised script costs $42.50, others pay more than $1000. “We want to minimise the amount of stock of these treatments that goes out of date when they expire at the end of this year or early 2023,” Mr Tassone said.
