The legislature has been slow to support a pilot project to install speed cameras on some Bay Area streets to see how effective they are in slowing speeders and, hopefully, making streets safer.

I live on a long street that drivers like to use as a shortcut. Despite parents posting “Slow down, children playing” and other signs, these drivers are doing 30 to 40 mph on our street. If you motion to them to slow down, they just speed up. I hope others who have the problem of speeders, either on the street or on freeways, contact their representatives in Sacramento to ask them to support legislation that would legalize the use of speed cameras in California.A: This will come up again, but the legislature has been slow to support a pilot project to install speed cameras on some Bay Area streets to see how effective they are in slowing speeders and, hopefully, making streets safer.
Q: Reading the tale of the couple riding BART on Sept. 8 to San Francisco for the Lady Gaga concert, I could relate. Going to San Francisco on a concert date is challenging, with traffic. My friends paid $100 to park with heavy traffic . I was happy to be able to take Caltrain from Santa Clara. It was a good choice for the trip there. For the return, the train had a midnight departure time so we left the concert early to board the train.
