Australian entertainer Ignatius Jones has died following a short illness, aged 67. Jones, the singer of Sydney shock rock band Jimmy and the Boys, died on Tuesday night at his home in the Philippines. His sister, former Play School presenter Monica Trapaga, announced his death in a statement. “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Ignatius Jones AM, after a short illness,” the statement read.
He spent six years as director of the Sydney New Year’s Eve celebrations, and also directed the classic horses segment during the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games. He had a host of international highlights too, and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for his contribution to entertainment and literature.
