Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan says he cannot get the image of the green Converse shoes which belonged to a victim of the Uvalde, Texas school shooting out of his head.

The sneakers, which had a hand-drawn heart on the right toe, were used in actor Matthew McConaughey’s impassioned plea to the White House to stop gun violence. The Academy Award winning actor said the distinctive shoes were the only way authorities were able to identify ten year old Maite Rodriguez after she had been brutally murdered while at school.“I don’t think there’s been a more powerful or harrowing speech at the White House Briefing Room maybe ever,” Mr Morgan said.
“What Matthew McConaughey has done is changed the tone of the gun debate from toxic, charged partisan mudslinging a more respectful rhetoric intended to unify Americans, to bring about change that could potentially save countless innocent lives.”
