Immigration has surged as an issue of concern among voters while the government’s perceived handling of the issue is continuing to decline, a new survey shows.
While the government said in the May budget it would reduce net overseas migration from 260,000 this financial year to 255,000 next year and 235,000 the year after, Opposition LeaderThe permanent intake would then increase to 150,000 in year three, and 160,000 in year four. This pledge led to accusations from some quarters that Mr Dutton was being racist, but he has told colleagues that those peddling such theories are making the same mistake in misreading the public mood as they did regarding the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
The True Issues survey gauges the issues voters are most concerned about and also grades how voters feel the government is handling each of them.
