MotoGP: Bagnaia jumps Martin in MotoGP standings after race win in Austria
It was the Aragon Grand Prix of 2021 and the Italian, in his third premier-class season , had yet to break through for his maiden victory . Pole at Aragon was one thing, but having Marc Marquez on a Repsol Honda clambering all over you at one of the Spaniard’s signature tracks would have been enough to weaken the knees of any rider, let alone one still searching for a MotoGP win.
Elsewhere at Aragon, MotoGP’s most improved rider of 2024 is looking to get back in the saddle as Australia’s Jack Miller’s future remains clear but unresolved, while next year’s calendar – not yet official, but expected to be within a fortnight – has taken further shape.Bagnaia made a name for himself when he stared down Marquez at Aragon in 2021.
“In some respects he has improved more than I have, and that is why my goal now is to try to catch up. “The difference is that now I know how to do it . If I had to go back to that race I would try to manage it better, to get to the end with more advantage over Marc. It would be great if I had the same battle against Marquez on Sunday. And with the same result ...”.
Aldeguer, 19, earned a contract directly with Ducati’s factory in March after finishing the 2024 Moto2 season with four successive victories, while Chantra, 25, will become the first Thai rider in MotoGP history when he takes over from Honda stalwart Takaaki Nakagami next season, the Japanese veteran to become a development rider with Honda Racing Corporation and compete in an unspecified number of races as a wildcard.
“The shoulder is not fantastic at the moment, I worked a lot the past weeks to try to arrive as ready as possible but I still have some pain with some movements,” he said. The Roman rider said the GP23 that he, along with Marc Marquez, has used this season shows the gains the Borgo Panigale factory has made year-on-year, with GP24 riders locking out four of the past five podiums from Italy to Austria.
