North Lanarkshire Council has made several recent improvements to parks across the local authority area.
Success in attracting outside investment has seen £1.5 million spent on improvements at Strathclyde Country Park.
Cycling tuition has seen children develop from needing stabilisers to riding freely, and also promoted the use of helmets, and the Gateway has also been commended by organisations such Scottish Cycling. It was also selected as a venue for a UCI championship heat and nominated for a COSLA Excellence Award.
The council also invested £260,000 on improving drainage and surfacing in Cumbernauld’s Palacerigg Country Park, with almost £50,000 of new signage also soon to be installed. Another project in the works is the Remembering Together Covid-19 memorial, due to be installed at Strathclyde Country Park in Spring 2024. A public consultation led to the final design being produced, and it will be constructed from materials reflecting Lanarkshire’s industrial heritage and feature a lectern with information display. Members of the public will be invited to contribute to the landscaping, planting bulbs, trees and wildflower seeds.
