Renovations to Norris Square Park will resume this spring after years of delays caused by supply chain issues and inflation.
The welcome news comes after years of delays to the West Kensington park’s renovations due to supply chain issues and inflation.
“For me, it’s longer than the 2019 discussion,” Febo said. “It’s a 14-year push. I’ve been pushing for the project for a minute, and seeing it done feels good.”The restoration process began in 2019 with the support of the office of former Councilmember María Quiñones Sánchez. A $2.3 million budget was covered by City Council, and the New York City-based and Puerto Rican-owned architectural firm Marvel was hired to oversee the redesign.
The Department of Parks and Recreation did not respond to a request for comment by The Inquirer’s deadline.In addition, the needed renovations to the central plaza encompassed regulations mandated by the city’s water department, which added unexpected costs to the project. “Families have called Norris Square home for generations and their commitment to this community is why this park is still thriving today,” she wrote. “The children who come here every day to play will eventually take the reins as the foundation of this community and I hope to see them continue to preserve the park and the rich culture of this neighborhood.”“We’re ecstatic that the people that need to be at the table are at the table and being listened to.
