This program prioritizes keeping families together by distributing free-to-owner pet care, food and other supplies and resources to pet owners in specific Oakland neighborhoods. The service model of the Pets for Life program incorporates strategic door-to-door outreach, builds a consistent community presence and cultivates long-lasting relationships with pet owners. This program is supported by The Humane Society of the United States.

“East Bay SPCA thanks The Humane Society of the United States for their generous support,” said Karalyn Aronow, the East Bay SPCA’s vice president of operations. “With the help of this grant and training, we hope to make a real and lasting difference for people and pets in underserved areas in Oakland.”

Driven by social justice, the Pets for Life philosophy recognizes that a deep connection with pets transcends socioeconomic, racial, ethnic and geographic boundaries and that no one should be denied the opportunity to experience the benefits and joy that come from the human-animal bond. “East Bay SPCA has demonstrated an impressive initiative to address the inequity in access to pet resources that people in underserved areas experience,” said Amanda Arrington, Pets for Life’s senior director. “The Humane Society of the United States is proud to support East Bay SPCA in working towards a more just and fair animal welfare movement.”at least three days before publication, include the name of the group or individual to whom it is to be credited and should include a brief headline.
