Things are certainly off to an odd start when the French president insists on taking everyone to see the remains of a recently excavated "bog person", an Iron-Age mummy whose fetid, faecal-coloured flesh remains vividly intact. "I think their ancient seed has extinguished the flame," observes the Canadian PM, after a bog-man circle jerk has snuffed out a campfire. It's a line worthy of Beavis and Butthead.
