The level of the Wilsons River in Lismore rose to more than 14m, inundating the city of 28,000 people and leaving families clinging to their roofs waiting to be rescued. Many other surrounding areas were affected, and tens of thousands of people were ordered to evacuate. With emergency services overrun, locals took to the flooded streets in their tinnies and fishing boats to save their neighbours.This petrol station in Lismore was inundated.
