Donald Trump's defence team began its opening argument on day five of the President's Senate impeachment trial. Here are the key takeaways from today's session:In their first opportunity to defend the President uninterrupted,on a day Mr Trump had earlier labelled as the"Death Valley" of television ratings.
Deputy White House counsel Michael Purpura argued that when Mr Trump asked Mr Zelenskiy to"do us a favour", he meant the US, not himself.White House counsel Pat Cipollone ran with one of the President's favourite tactics when he said that the election interference wasn't coming from Mr Trump, but from Democrats instead.
"For all their talk about election interference … they're here to perpetrate the most massive interference in an election in American history, and we can't allow that to happen. It would violate our constitution. It would violate our history. It would violate our obligations to the future," Mr Cipollone said.
and pointed to one of the President's favourite bogeymen — lead House impeachment manager Adam Schiff. The defence played clips of Mr Schiff saying early in the investigation that the Intelligence Committee hadn't had any contact with the whistleblower who first revealed the call between Mr Trump and Mr Zelenskiy. In fact, the whistleblower had talked to committee staff.likely the defence team pulled plenty of punches today in order to land a barrage on Monday
That's how long it took to dismantle Dems' impeachment case. Do you idiots actually employ 'journalists' or is it all drag queen story time with ?
Pretty crummy analysis, completely glossing over RepAdamSchiff's lack of credibility, the failure of the House to issue valid sub poenas, & the lack of a Quo is the supposed Quid Pro Quo. Watch this & be enlightened.
Two hours was all what's needed to counter the bull peddled by the democrats. Facts matter.
Don't need much time when you are colluding with a jury who can block witnesses and evidence.
Since the ABC missed their chance to report this accurately.....here try this...
Of course they did, they don’t even need to turn up the repubs have already said that they won’t find him guilty regardless of evidence, this is just about putting the info out there including the stuff that was blocked by repubs
Based on this report. Didn’t even watch or listen to the two hours.
Waste of time and money arguing over aid for weapons in a country of corruption. Democrats aren’t good at politics
This happens when the Dem's provide little that needs defending, besides the Dem's lies off course.
Two hours is all that was needed to begin unravelling and completely discredit the Democrats case. Standby for more come Monday.
How do you defend yourself in a witch-hunt. “I’m not a witch!” “Ah hah. That’s exactly what a witch would say”
Just read this and go home.
