About 37,000 drivers have been caught ignoring the road rules since November 1. Of those,18,847 people were fined in Brisbane.
Queenslanders continue to flout road rules, with almost 500 people in two weeks fined for not wearing a seatbelt or using their phone while driving.
Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the cameras caught 37,594 people ignoring the road rules since November 1, including 18,847 people caught in Brisbane.“Drivers have known these cameras were coming, and had a three-month warning period, yet 26,491 people have continued to use their phone behind the wheel.
Mr Bailey said the funds from the fines were put towards road safety initiatives and education programs, including $1.7 billion already being invested this year.“It’s simple. If you don’t want a fine, don’t break the rules.” “Given only 15 per cent of Queensland’s population live outside significant urban areas, this is a large over-representation and one this initiative aims to reduce.”
